COFFEE

PERU, LIMA F.T.O. {FILTER}

from 9.00

This coffee is made possible by the organisational and cupping skills of one Rony Lavan, president of the Lima Coffees export organisation, four hundred small holder farmers and the workers they employ. This coffee is farmed in Jaén province in the Cajamarca jungle region of Northern Peru. In the cup expect apple, chocolate, dark honey and toffee all wrapped in a big, sticky body. This coffee is certified Fair Trade and (USDA) Organic. Generally we in the coffee scene don’t have too much contact with these licences as we’re often paying three times (and over) the minimum per-kilo price Fair Trade specifies. Peru’s private banks refuse to accept untitled land as collateral for loans so the small-hold farmers must rely on credit from coffee buyers and private lenders which creates the conditions for exploitation of farmers. This is why institutions like Fair Trade are necessary in Peru’s privatised coffee production industry. This coffee is roasted for filter but will stand up to a bit of milk.
