Hong Yu, or Red Jade is a truly unique tea recently developed by the Taiwan Tea Research and Extension Station in the hills surrounding the Sun Moon Lake tea factory in Nantou country, Central Taiwan. Hong Yu is produced from a plant variety that is a cross between the Assam strain from Burma and a local Taiwanese wild strain. It’s grown naturally and is pesticide free. The research facility settled on growing this variety in Yuchih town for it’s perfect growing conditions. Hong Yu is a fully oxidised and lightly roasted tea and the result is a really interesting, velvety cup with great complexity.

For best results, brew at 95 degrees for 2 minutes. Use a dose of 1.4 grams for 100 ml of water. Infuse twice. This tea is best enjoyed without milk.
