CHINA, YUE GUANG BAI - WHITE TEA
A study in understatement, this white tea is the most minimally processed expression of Camellia sinensis. Harvested when buds and leaves are still young and tender, the tea undergoes no rolling or deliberate oxidation. Instead, the fresh leaf is carefully spread to wither, allowing moisture to evaporate slowly before being gently dried, a restrained process that preserves the leaf’s natural structure and clarity.
Yue Guang Bai comes from Nanping Town in Yunnan’s Pu’er region, an area often referred to as the “eternal spring” for its mild temperatures and consistent growing conditions. High elevation, regular rainfall and cool year-round weather support slow growth and delicate flavour development. The tea is grown on a biodynamic farm and produced at the on-site factory in Pu’er, allowing close control from harvest through to drying.
Made from one bud and one leaf, the leaves show their characteristic contrast, one side dark and the other pale and silvery, which gives Yue Guang Bai its name, often translated as Moonlight White. In the cup it’s refined and composed rather than showy. A soft, velvety texture carries subtle musk and pear sweetness, underpinned by a delicate cedar-like structure. Light and airy yet layered, it’s quietly expressive and deeply satisfying.
