Mustefa Abalulessa is an industry pioneer and community leader in Agaro, Oromia, where he supplies coffee seed and supports neighbouring growers. This coffee is named Koye after the cooperative associated with the lot. Mark Dundan first met Mustefa in 2018 and has bought directly from him since 2021, working with Ethiopian origin partner Coqua. After Ethiopia’s 2017 export reforms, Mustefa was among the early producers to secure an export licence, allowing his coffee to be traded with far clearer producer identity.

Koye grows at about 2,150 metres, where cool conditions slow cherry maturation and help build sweetness, clarity and aromatic complexity. The lot combines 74110 and 74165, selections developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre for local growing conditions and cup quality. Coffee is harvested from October to December; the 2025 Seven Seeds transparency report records a 10,800 kg lot with a score of 86.25.

The coffee is fully washed, with the fruit removed before fermentation and drying to foreground clean acidity and precise sweetness. In the cup, expect apple pie, brown sugar and ripe peach: warm, dessert-like sweetness lifted by juicy stone fruit and a tidy finish. It is a clear, approachable Ethiopian filter coffee, with enough structure to remain balanced across different brewers.
